The brief for Tallbeam Building Co
Premium, solid and calm, the way a good building site looks. The colours come from the job: concrete grey, charcoal, and a rust accent like steel left out in the weather. The corners are square, a fine grid sits under every section like the lines on a set of plans, and the headings are set wide and heavy. Most pages open on a full-screen film of real building work, from slabs being poured to timber frames going up.
The builder's licence number is on the first screen of every page and in the footer. In NSW, a builder advertising home building work worth more than $5,000 has to show their licence number, and on jobs over $20,000 they need Home Building Compensation cover before they can take a deposit. A careful customer will check both, so the site says so up front instead of waiting to be asked.
What's on the Tallbeam Building Co site
- Eight service pages: new builds, extensions, renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, decks, pergolas and granny flats. Each one has a guide price, what the job needs approved, and the stages of the build in order.
- Two area pages, for Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, with ten suburb pages under them. Each suburb page covers what building there involves, from mine subsidence and heritage streets to bushfire and flood maps, and the job done most in that suburb.
- Three sample projects. Two have a film walking through the finished house beside its floor plan, and the room being shown lights up on the plan as the film plays.
- Sample reviews laid out like sheets from a set of plans, each with its own title block.
- An about page on who runs the jobs, with a drawn map of the suburbs the builder works in.
- A quote form that runs one step at a time. As the customer answers, a wall frame goes up beside it, one stud per step, and a site docket fills in with their answers.
Why suburb pages? When someone searches "builders Merewether", Google looks for a page that's about building in Merewether. Like any trade business, a builder goes to the job, so the suburb pages follow the work: the two council areas around the builder's base in Merewether, in the suburbs with the older houses and the most renovation work.
How the Tallbeam Building Co site moves
A tape measure runs down the side of every page. Its blade comes out as you scroll, it reads how far down the page you are in metres, and each section is marked on the blade. On a computer, the menu opens beside the floor plan of a house: point at a service and its room lights up on the plan, the kitchen for kitchens, the deck for decks.
On a computer, sections slide up over each other as you scroll, and the dark ones fill from the bottom up like a concrete pour. Each photo opens out from a point in its centre and then drifts slowly. The stages of a build run sideways across the screen, and the number of the stage you're on fills in rust. On a phone the same pages move in a lighter way that suits a thumb, and if someone has set their phone to show less motion, every page appears finished and still, with nothing hidden from them.
What Tallbeam Building Co scores on Google's tests
These are the five scores from Google's free PageSpeed Insights test, run on a phone setting against the live home page on 1 Nov 2026. Each is out of 100. When we tested 736 small business websites across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland in 2026, the typical one scored 57 for speed. This one scores 99, with a full-screen film on the home page and most of the pages behind it.
Performance is how fast the page loads and becomes usable. Accessibility is how well the site works for people with poor eyesight or who use a screen reader. Best Practices checks security and up-to-date web standards. SEO checks the basics Google needs to understand and list a page. Agentic browsing is a newer check of how easily AI assistants can read and use the site.
Why SEO says 100 here and less on the live demo. Tallbeam Building Co isn't a real business, so we've asked Google not to list it in search results. That way it never competes with a real builder. Google's test sees that request and marks the SEO score down, because on a real business website it would be a mistake. With the request switched off, the site scores 100 for SEO: we tested the home page, a service page, a suburb page and an area page that way on 1 Nov 2026, and all four came back 100.
Built to be found for builder searches
Before a word was written, we looked at what people actually type into Google when they need a builder around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and gave each page its own phrase to aim for. The most-searched phrases went to the pages that win work: each service, the two area pages and the suburbs. Because no two pages chase the same phrase, they never compete with each other in Google's results.
Photos and film we'd ask a builder client to shoot
On a real build, the photos and film come from the builder's own jobs. Their own finished houses are what win the next customer, and no stock footage can do that. For this demo we used stock film and photos. Here's what we'd ask a builder to capture:
- One job from start to finish from the same spot: the bare block, the slab, the frame, lock-up and the finished house, so the home page film is their own.
- A drone pass over two or three finished homes, slow and steady, early morning or late afternoon.
- The work people never see once it's done: the steel before a pour, the frame before the plaster, the waterproofing before the tiles.
- A slow walk through a finished house, room by room, for a project's floor plan film.
- The site lead on site, half-length, with the plans in hand.
- The ute and the site sign, so a new client knows who is pulling up.
